CASE STUDY
Dina-Hitex received an EcoVadis Silver Medal in its first assessment
How to turn established practices and ISO certifications into a structured ESG system within three months

Dina-Hitex is a Czech manufacturer of medical devices with two production facilities in the Czech Republic and 285 employees. The company focuses on the development and manufacture of disposable medical devices and nonwoven textile products. Its key products include surgical sets, surgical drapes, surgical gowns and disposable clothing for healthcare.

Customers requested EcoVadis

Our collaboration began in response to customers requesting an EcoVadis assessment. The goal was to guide the client through its first assessment, identify missing areas and complete the necessary documentation and measures to meet EcoVadis requirements — all within three months.

Dina-Hitex already had basic documentation and ISO systems in place (ISO 14001 and ISO 13485), providing a solid foundation for demonstrating some of the measures already implemented. At the same time, a number of areas specific to EcoVadis still needed to be addressed. The company also operates its own photovoltaic power plant, which could be incorporated into the mapping of its environmental measures.

The challenge: connecting established practices with EcoVadis requirements

Dina-Hitex was increasingly encountering EcoVadis requirements from its customers and needed to quickly understand what the assessment involved. Without proper preparation, there was a risk that the company would be unable to adequately demonstrate its existing measures or make full use of its existing strengths.

The company already had several systems and measures in place, including ISO certifications and its own photovoltaic power plant, but lacked a unified framework connecting them with the EcoVadis methodology. It was necessary to identify material topics, identify gaps in the documentation and strengthen areas that were not sufficiently covered from the perspective of the assessment.

The supporting documents and ESG data were also not centralised in one place, and collecting them required the involvement of several departments, particularly Quality, Occupational Health and Safety and Environment, HR and Procurement. The challenge was to align responsibilities, establish a practical data collection process and create evidence of implementation for the key areas being assessed.

As part of the preparation, it was necessary to newly address or significantly strengthen sustainable procurement, working conditions, employee career development, anti-discrimination, environmental and ethical material topics, and to establish objectives for the key areas being assessed.

Our solution: from established practices to a structured ESG system

Gap analysis
We connected EcoVadis requirements with the way the company actually operates across production, quality, procurement, HR, occupational health and safety and environmental management. We distinguished between what Dina-Hitex was already doing, what simply had not been documented properly and what was genuinely missing.
Leveraging existing strengths
The ISO certifications and the company’s own photovoltaic power plant provided an evidence base for some of the measures already implemented. At the same time, we supplemented areas that EcoVadis assesses more broadly, including sustainable procurement, working conditions, career development, anti-discrimination and ethics.
Targeted completion of documentation based on actual gaps
We prepared sustainable procurement guidelines, policies covering working conditions and career development, an anti-discrimination policy, expanded the environmental policy to include material topics and objectives, and supplemented the code of ethics. Each document was linked to specific responsibilities and available data.
Addressing environmental performance through both data and concrete measures
We placed the company’s own photovoltaic power plant within a broader framework of environmental measures and connected it with ESG data collection and the definition of objectives. At the same time, we consolidated data collection into a single company-wide document designed for repeated use.

How we worked

We guided the client methodically through every relevant EcoVadis area, explaining to the team what is assessed within each topic, what types of evidence can be used and why it is not enough for measures to exist only informally.

Because the necessary information was not concentrated with a single person, we brought representatives from Quality, Occupational Health and Safety and Environment, HR and Procurement together into an internal “ESG team”. This allowed us to obtain data directly from the owners of individual topics and establish clear responsibilities for the future.

We managed the entire process through structured project management. Coordinating tasks, deadlines, documentation and communication with management enabled us to complete the preparation within three months without placing the entire burden on a single internal owner.

Specific outputs of the collaboration

  • Gap analysis of the company’s readiness for its first EcoVadis assessment
  • Identification of material topics and priorities according to EcoVadis requirements
  • Overview of gaps in the existing documentation and recommendations on what to supplement, revise or create
  • Use of existing ISO systems as a supporting foundation for demonstrating selected implemented measures
  • Introduction of policies and measures in sustainable procurement
  • New policies covering working conditions and employee career development
  • Anti-discrimination policy
  • Expanded environmental policy covering material topics and related objectives
  • Addition of key ethical topics to the code of ethics
  • Qualitative and quantitative objectives in material areas relevant to the company’s operations
  • Identification of action steps and evidence of implementation in key assessed areas
  • A unified KPI document for comprehensive ESG data collection across the company
  • Establishment of a data collection system and clear responsibilities for individual departments
  • Simplified Scope 1–3 carbon footprint estimate using the EcoVadis platform
  • Inclusion of the company’s own photovoltaic power plant in the mapping of environmental measures
  • Ongoing project management of the ESG team and communication with management

Results and benefits: a Silver Medal on the first attempt

🏅 EcoVadis Silver Medal, 77 points out of 100

The individual pieces of documentation were transformed into a unified system for EcoVadis, and the ESG agenda moved from an ad hoc approach to a managed process with clearly assigned responsibilities within the internal ESG team.

The company also gained a foundation for repeatable data collection through a unified KPI document that can be used for future assessments as well as internal management.

Dina-Hitex successfully completed its first EcoVadis assessment and received a Silver Medal. The result confirmed that the three-month preparation successfully translated both existing practices and newly introduced measures into a form that could be properly demonstrated within the assessment.
“Collaboration with Flagship Impact was crucial for successfully preparing for our first EcoVadis assessment and achieving a high score. They helped us translate our existing practices into a clear structure, make effective use of our existing ISO certifications, address missing areas and efficiently coordinate our internal team across departments. Receiving the Silver Medal was a very positive surprise for us.”
